Yes, it's true ... I named The NetWits.
by B. Elwin Sherman
It was a dark and stormy metaphor and there I was, responding to an e-mail plea by the then uncelebrated Keith J. MacDonald, begging me to come up with something he could use to describe the assemblage of internet humor columnists he'd wanted to administer.
It was a lifelong dream of his, he'd written, surpassed only by his passion for restoring the engines and under-bodies of both muscle cars and widowed island women to their former splendors.
I thought long and hard, and finding myself alone and inextricably gripped by this condition, I masturbated, de-booted and went to bed.
The next day, after carefully researching the cyber-demographics of humor as an internet institution, and drawing from my penchant for bad pun-christening my dogs with the names of notorious Japanese gangsters, I had the answer:
Dear Mac:
How about: "THE YAK HUZZAHS"? Either that, or THE NETWITS.
He agreed to the latter, and here we are, with me still waiting for a semblance of kickback, and us so-dubbed.
