Netwits History
Our Beloved Founder:
Keith Macdonald
On July 4, 1999, I made a list of twenty-two Internet humor writers. (This, I guess you could say, was the embryonic
stage of the Net Wits' evolution.)
I invited them all to join me as a discussion group on "OneList.com".(This was the incubation period. (Bloating, weight gain and moods swings were common.) Suddenly, members started joining... slowly at first, and then it became a madhouse around here! (At this point the organization had come full term and was in labor --
screaming and cursing at anyone within earshot.)
So after 48 excruciating hours of torture, "NetColumnists" was born.(An ugly little creature it was too -- rough around the edges and needing a good slap on the ass to get it breathing. It immediately became the new kid on the block, and it set out to rule its domain.)
As time passed it became toilet-trained, (well, sort of), and actually began to show some promise. Information was being shared, people were getting pissed-off -- the newborn was growing up!
Later, we renamed the organization, Internet Humor Columnists. (Pretty original, huh?) And soon after that, when we wanted a more easily-recognizable handle, we nicknamed ourselves, The Backstreet Boys!,but there were new female members arriving, so we were forced change the name again. This time to:
The
Net Wits
The group is rapidly approaching the 200 member mark, and with new writers joining weekly, visitors to our site will always have a fresh column to read.
Thanks for reading this History of The Net Wits. There will be a quiz on Friday.
Take care,
Keith J. MacDonald
